I and You

Projection/Video Design

I set out to capitalize on the symbolism found within the text and help to gather all the threads that have been laid throughout the text and the other design elements at the end for a satisfying and fulfilling conclusion for the audience.

I'd be lying if I didn't say this was a challenging design to work on with many limitations like budget, space, personnel, and time. This resulted in many on-the-fly decisions and last-minute changes. This resulted in a radically different design from what was initially planned, but one that I believe satisfied the needs of the audiences and fulfilled the creative goal of this project.

This is the revised yet not final layout for this ambitious design. With limited throw distance and a tight budget, we came to this creative layout. To maximize the vertical throw of the projector we decided to stack out projectors and their fields. Then we could fill in the sides of the projected surface with Lusters to work together to create a colourful abstract void across the hole wall. I should mention that the wall was constructed of muslin to act as an RP screen.

For control, the intention was to run a Cat 5 cable to the FOH position to create a LAN so that we could use NDI to KVM the media computer. Depending on the reliability of this was also going to be the operating position.

Drafting and plot

As part of the intended design, the plan was to use two projectors, as mentioned above. To get a more predictable separation in height between the projectors, I requested this box to be constructed. This was additionally important because of the tight change over time as this is being presented in a festival situation. By having the projectors stay in this case, they help reduce the time needed to re-map to projectors to each other. I addressed heating concerns by adding some ventilation slits but would've liked to add some fans if this was a longer-running project. This was designed to be constructed with the aid of CNC or laser but could be built by hand if needed.

Additional Plot & Drafting Requirements

This is a screencap of the QLab. As this was created by 3 different looping video layers it does not loop in this video but does on the QLab.
